The Village Explorer is an immersion in Kadavu’s warm, friendly culture together with daily adventures out sea-kayaking, snorkeling and hiking.
Our indigenous guides will lead you to two traditional villages; you’ll stay two nights in each. Both villages can only be reached by boat or on foot. There are no roads in this remote part of Fiji.
You’ll experience the sevusevu ceremony of welcome and sleep in a village home, hosted by a family. You'll be served authentic Fijian cuisine. There are no supermarkets here; almost everything comes direct from the land and sea. You can get involved in the food-gathering and preparation; you can even wash the dishes if you want.
The villagers’ welcome will be sincere and heartfelt. Every year just a few international visitors go this deep into Kadavu Island culture. The trip is private so the balance between outdoor activities, cultural interaction, free-time and rest-time can be tailored to suit your group. Children and non-paddlers can join the trip too.
More about the accommodation:
Life in Fiji's outer-island villages is not always comfortable and seldom luxurious. Common household appliances are not common at all; furniture is rare. Most meals, meetings and social get-togethers are held seated on woven mats on the floor. The Village Explorer gives travelers a real experience of the local way of life. During the night you may be woken by roosters crowing, people singing and coconuts falling on tin-roofs. These are the sounds of village life. You'll sleep in a family home with limited electricity, you'll be given private bedrooms and access to a shared bathroom (flush-toilet, cold-water shower). The food will be healthy and plentiful, with abundant fresh water, safe to drink.
